Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Estimator to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for accurately estimating project costs, preparing tender documentation, and ensuring the efficient processing of tenders and quotes. This role plays a key part in determining project viability and profitability by gathering accurate data on labour, materials, and time requirements while adhering to IMG’s processes and ensuring strong collaboration with internal teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the estimating process, adhering to IMG’s quoting procedure and ensuring all deadlines and timeframes are met.
  • Prepare accurate estimates by gathering proposals, blueprints, specifications, and collaborating with internal teams to identify labour, material, and time requirements.
  • Prepare and submit tender documentation, ensuring all relevant plans, blueprints, and necessary paperwork are included per IMG specifications (including Bill of Materials).
  • Optimise margins by working with managers and supervisors to ensure cost-effective pricing and accurate estimates.
  • Conduct pre-tender meetings for large-scale projects to confirm IMG’s intention to tender and clarify the process.
  • Support client relationship management by assisting with sales proposals, conducting site visits, and maintaining regular contact with key accounts.
  • Ensure all quoted jobs are opened promptly and job packs are complete, containing necessary QA/QC information for a smooth handover to the relevant team.

Requirements

  • Relevant tertiary or trade qualification or a really good knowledge of Mechanical Engineering.
  • Hold and maintain a current NZ driver’s licence: Class/Endorsements 1
  • Intermediate to advanced MS and Excel skills.
  • Experience in sales or customer relations.
  • Can understand budgets, plans, and financials.
  • A careful and methodical approach to work.
  • Good general level of verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, stay focussed and meet deadlines.
  • Well organised with sound attention to detail.
  • Understanding blueprints, engineering symbols, plans, Industry Codes & Standards.
  • A self-motivator and able to confidently present at a senior level.
